Clitoral Hood Reduction

Specializations

Clitoral Hoodoplasty (Clitoral Hood Reduction) is a surgical procedure involving the removal of the excess tissue surrounding the clitoris. The procedure is most commonly done along with a labiaplasty.

Why do a Clitoral Hoodoplasty?

Women with an enlarged clitoral hood are often concerned about cosmetic appearance. Enlargement of the clitoral hood can negatively affect sexual pleasure during sexual intercourse. If the tissue is large and thick it can be causing the inability to achieve adequate stimulation to the clitoris. The redundant tissue can also be uncomfortable while wearing tight-fitting clothing as well as during exercises.

Anaesthesia

Clitoral hoodoplasty is usually done at the time of a labiaplasty. It can be performed under local anaesthesia with oral sedation or general anaesthesia.

The excess tissue is marked according to the patient's anatomy. The marked tissue is removed during surgery. The closure is usually done with absorbable sutures.

What are the risks of a clitoral hood reduction?

The most frequently reported risks of surgery include bleeding, hematoma, infection, scarring and decreased clitoral sensation( nerve damage), under or over resection. Complications are possible but with our experience and surgical techniques, they are uncommon.

Duration of surgery

30 minutes

Duration of hospitalization

The patient is discharged after 4-6 hours of postoperative follow-up.

Recovering from a clitoral hood reduction

Post-operative restrictions include no vaginal penetration for 6 weeks, avoidance of any pressures on the suture lines, and refraining from any activities that could lead to tension on the incisions. The recovery is primarily determined by the accompanying labiaplasty.
