The nose is an aesthetic and functional organ which affects the face view. Rhinoplasty is an operation which changes its external appearance. Even when we say rhinoplasty, everybody think about the aesthetic operations, we should not forget that the nose is not only an organ which affects our aesthetic appearance, but it’s function is also playing a very important role on our vital necessities as breathing.

In this context especially with aesthetic concerns it should be avoided to extreme minifying or narrowing operations which may prevent the functions of the nose. If the patient has inspiration problems emanated from her nose, the rhinoplasty operation should be realized together with the medical attention which will be applied to solve this problem (deviation, septoplasty, minifying the concha, sinusitis surgery, etc.).

Especially for the nose surgery, the aesthetic and function is an integral whole. In this context the successful nose aesthetic must supply a natural appearance harmonic with your face, and should ease the inspiration. With the rhinoplasty operation the size of the nose can be growth or minified, the nose tip can be formed.

The nostrils can be minified. The shapes that it makes with lips and brow can be changed. There is no standard rhinoplasty operation. There is a rhinoplasty surgery which will be applied in accordance with the patient’s needs, special for the patient. The realistic expectation, healthy person and psychological balance are the important criterions for a rhinoplasty candidate. The characteristics of the patient will also affect the result.

Age: For the male patients from 17 years of age, and for the female patients from 16 years of age the rhinoplasty operation can be made. For the advanced years the skin looses its elasticity and more limited operations will be preferred.  The thickness of the nose skin and the nose tissue’s fat content will affect the result of the rhinoplasty. As a thick cloth does not reflect the form of the object under it, the thick nose skin does also not reflect the bone and cartilage surgery applied to the nose. In such case for the patients who have thick and fatty nose skin, instead of minifying surgery, a volume protecting, even cloth stretching and aiming to form a balanced nose surgical action should be applied.

The twisted nose is a serious problem. The problems in form of C, S or J caused by the internal (like septum pathologies or deviation) and the external (bone, cartilage and soft tissue) reasons. Both problems must be solved with the same operation. Besides that, too many patients have face-asymmetry. All these problems must be discussed with your doctor on the photographs. A previous rhinoplasty surgery is also affecting the result directly. The types of the previous operations (deviation, actions with aesthetic purposes, nose tip surgery, breaking the bone, etc.) will affect the next operations type and size. The existence of the nose and ear cartilages will ease the reparation.

As a rhinoplasty candidate the internal and external parts of your nose will be carefully examined by your doctor during the first examination. If there is an additional disease or problem, this will be determined on this phase (sinusitis, nasal, polyp, etc.). Your doctor will take your photographs which are necessary for your surgical operation (from nine different angles). These photos will be used for planning your rhinoplasty operation. Additionally some studies will be made on the images taken by a digital camera through a computer program for having an idea about the post-operation appearance (Imaging).

The operation will be done in the hospital and under general anesthesia. The time of the operation will be changed between two and three hours according to the problems of the patient. After the operation there will be tampons in the nose and gypsum on the nose. Next day the tampons will be removed and on the sixth day the gypsum and the stitches will be removed. After the operation bandages will be used for one week.
