A monsplasty is a surgical procedure that removes hanging skin and fatty tissue from your mons pubis. Your mons pubis is the mound of tissue in front of your pubic bones, that is covered in pubic hair. A monsplasty is a cosmetic procedure. It lifts, tightens and reshapes the structure of your mons pubis. It may also improve function and comfort.

Reasons patients want a monsplasty

• Be disturbed by the appearance of the vulva
• Being embarrassed when wearing tight clothes and swimsuits
• Difficulty in having sexual intercourse and cleaning
• Age, pregnancy, genetics, excess estrogen, significant weight gain or significant weight loss can cause excess skin and fatty tissue on mons pubis

Monsplasty procedure

• A monsplasty is usually done at the same time as a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) because a bulging mons pubis is often more noticeable after you’ve removed fatty tissue and tightened the skin on your abdomen.

Monsplasty: A horizontal incision is made in the mons pubis (from the area marked in the last pre-operative examination). .Excess fatty tissue and skin are removed using a scalpel.The underlying tissue and muscle may be pulled up and tightened using sutures, and your mons pubis is “sculpted”.The incision is then closed with sutures and adhesive strips

• Monsplasty and liposuction can be done together, but they’re different procedures.

What are the risks of a monsplasty?

Risks of monsplasty include bleeding, hematoma, infection and scarring.

Recovering from a monsplasty

• Depending on the extensiveness of the procedure.
• A day after surgery, you’ll begin to take slow-paced walks.
• Two weeks after surgery, you can usually return to work.
• 3 weeks after surgery, your incision may be healed enough for swimming etc
• 4 to 6 weeks after surgery, you can do exercise and other physical activities.
• 8 weeks after surgery, you'll see the final results.
